Welcome to my Jam Jar Kitchen. I'm so glad you're here!

I'm Elizabeth, recipe developer, nonprofit founder, mom of two, and the woman behind The Jam Jar Kitchen. This blog is where my love of food, storytelling, and meaningful connection all come together. Here you'll find seasonal, family-friendly recipes made to be shared, some inspired by my Texas roots, others by the places I've traveled and the people I've met along the way.

Elizabeth Jordan-Flight, founder of Jam Jar Kitchen, smiles in a cozy white sweater and striped apron while holding a jar of home-canned green beans. She’s surrounded by colorful jars of preserves and a DSLR camera on a kitchen counter, highlighting her love for food preservation and food photography.

The Jam Jar Kitchen started as a way to support my nonprofit work fighting hunger in East Africa, but it's grown into so much more. It's become a place where I can explore food as a bridge between cultures, memories, and communities and hopefully help you feel a little more inspired (and confident!) in your own kitchen, too.

    A Little About Me

I live in Arlington, Texas, with my British husband, Tom, and our two kids, Arlo and Lila. I spent much of my twenties living and working abroad in international development, but these days life looks a little different: school drop-offs, recipe testing, and busy family dinners. I run this blog alongside my work with Preserve International, and in the margins of all of that, I try to pay attention to the small moments that make this season feel full.

I have a background in conflict and development studies, and in 2019 I co-founded Preserve International, a nonprofit that trains women and refugee-led farm groups in Uganda to preserve their harvests and earn income through sustainable food processing. A portion of the income from this blog helps fund that work, and if you've ever taken one of my sourdough classes or clicked on an affiliate link, you've been a part of it.

    What You'll Find Here

I believe food should be delicious, doable, and deeply connected to our stories. At The Jam Jar Kitchen, I share Simple, seasonal recipes the whole family will enjoy.

Whether you're here for a quick dinner idea or you're curious about water bath canning or sourdough bread, I'm so happy you've found your way here.

    Our Guide to Family Travel

When we're not cooking, we're usually planning our next adventure. Travel is a huge part of our family story, especially since Tom's family is based in the UK.

I started Four Flights Travel as a companion blog to The Jam Jar Kitchen, a space to share our favorite family-friendly itineraries, travel tips, and stories from the road. From Texas to Yorkshire, I write about the places we love, the food we try, and what it's really like to travel with kids in tow.

If you're looking for practical guides with a personal touch (plus some honest reflections along the way), I'd love for you to check it out.
