These Ham and Cheese Crescent Rolls are an easy, family-friendly recipe perfect for appetizers, snacks, or a quick dinner. Buttery, cheesy, and ready in 15 minutes, they're great for busy nights and pair perfectly with a bowl of soup!

Close-up of golden-brown ham and cheese crescent rolls on a baking sheet, with melted cheddar oozing out and a sprinkle of poppy seeds and herbs on top.

These Ham and Cheese Crescent Rolls are my 8-year-old son's favorite recipe on the blog...an opinion that humbles me, considering it's also the easiest. But honestly? I get it. Flaky, buttery, cheesy, and comforting, these rolls come together in minutes and deliver every time.

I've been making a version of these for years, and I'm so excited to finally share them here. They're perfect year-round and GREAT for a busy weeknight. I typically serve them with my Roasted Tomato Basil Soup for a delicious, balanced meal.

This recipe is super easy to double (or triple!) for a crowd, and while I love classic ham and cheddar, you can totally mix it up with your favorite deli meats and cheeses.

Flat lay of ingredients for ham and cheese crescent rolls, including sliced cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, seasoning blend in a bowl, crescent roll dough, Irish butter, poppy seeds, and Black Forest ham on a wooden surface.

    Equipment

For this recipe you will need a baking sheet and a cutting board with a sharp knife.

    Ingredients

    • Crescent rolls: I personally really prefer Annie's Crescent Rolls for this recipe. They have good ingredients and great flavor.
    • Deli ham: My favorite meat to use for this recipe is Applegate's Black Forest Ham.
    • Dijon mustard: You can also use plain yellow mustard if you prefer.
    • Cheese slices: I like using Sargento Cheddar Slices but you can use your favorite brand of cheese.
    • Butter: My favorite is Kerrygold Salted Butter.
    • Spices: I like to use garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
    • Poppy seeds (optional): These are optional but they add a nice flavor and texture.

Ham & Cheese Crescent Rolls FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! You can assemble the rolls a few hours in advance, cover them tightly, and store them in the fridge until ready to bake. For best results, bake within 12 hours.

Can I use different cheeses and meats?

Absolutely! I love the classic ham and cheddar combination but you could also do turkey and swiss or roast beef and provolone. The sky is the limit!

Can I freeze these ham and cheese crescent rolls?

Yes. Bake them fully, let them cool, then freeze in a single layer before transferring to a freezer bag. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through.

What is the best way to reheat these rolls?

They are best served warmed straight out of the oven. If you have any leftover store them in the refrigerator and then reheat ideally in the air fryer, or in the oven. You can microwave them but they come out rather soggy.

    Servings 8 rolls

    Equipment

    • unlined baking sheet (I do not recommend lining it with parchment paper as it can make the ham and cheese rolls soggy)

    Ingredients

    • 1 8 count container of crescent rolls I recommend Annie's (8 count) crescent rolls
    • 8 slices deli ham
    • 6-8 slices cheddar cheese, cut into ⅓rds
    • dijon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
    • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon poppy seeds optional

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
    • Take the crescent rolls out of the package and the lay flat on a cutting board. Add a dab of dijon to eat roll. Then layer on 1 slice of ham per roll followed by 2 strips of cheese. (see photos above)
Beginning at the widest end, roll up crescent roll encasing the ham and cheese. Place at least 2 inches apart on a baking sheet (you can line with parchment paper if desired).
    • In a small bowl combine melted butter with Italian seasoning and garlic powder and mix to combine. Brush a little of the butter mixture on top of each crescent roll and then top with a sprinkle of poppy seeds (if desired).
    • Bake at 375 degrees F for 13-15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and serve warm. Enjoy!
