    • Mixing bowls: The Pyrex glass mixing bowls are my kitchen go to.
    • Measuring cups and spoons
    • Cutting board with knife
    • Skillet and paper towel lined plate
    • Foil lined pan
    • Basting brush: I love this Oxo silicone basting brush.
    • Grill: We absolutely love our Charbroil Grill and use it all the time.

    Ingredients

    • Ground beef: Quality really does make a difference when it comes to burgers. I recommend using 80/20 organic, grass fed ground beef for the best burgers.
    • Ranch seasoning: I love using Yep!Shake ranch seasoning but you can use your favorite brand or simply make your own.
    • Salt & pepper
    • Coleslaw mix: You want to use a raw coleslaw mix which you can find easily in most grocery stores. Or simply make your own by shredding about 3 cups of cabbage.
    • Mayonnaise
    • BBQ sauce: Use your favorite brand.
    • White vinegar: Can sub with apple cider vinegar or pickle juice.
    • Bacon
    • Cheddar cheese
    • Brioche buns: You can substitute regular burger buns if you want I just think that brioche buns take this cheeseburger to a whole other level.
    • Red onion slices (optional)
    • Pickle slices (optional)

    Step by Step Instructions

    Time needed: 30 minutes.

How to make BBQ Ranch Burgers:

    1. Take the ground beef out of the fridge and allow to set at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before grilling.

Do not add any seasoning at this time.

Prepare the other ingredients while you wait for the burgers to come to room temperature.

    2. Make the coleslaw topping.

Two glass bowls on a checkered towel: the left holds a mixed dressing, perfect for BBQ Ranch Burgers, while the right features coleslaw with dressing mixed in.

    3. Make the burger sauce.

Two side-by-side images: The left shows a bowl with mayonnaise, ketchup, and herbs; the right shows the same bowl after mixing into a creamy sauce-perfect for topping BBQ Ranch Burgers.

    4. Cook the bacon.

Remove cooked bacon to a paper towel lined plate. Do not clean the skillet or throw out the bacon grease.

Left: Slices of bacon cooking in a pan. Right: Cooked bacon strips draining on a paper towel-lined plate, ready to add smoky crunch to BBQ Ranch Burgers.

    5. Preheat the grill (at least 5-10 minutes before cooking burgers) while you prepare your patties.

Three photos show BBQ Ranch Burgers: ground meat with seasoning in a bowl, formed into balls, then shaped into patties on a foil-lined tray, ready to be cooked.

    6. Grill burgers over medium high heat to desired level of doneness, basting with BBQ sauce. Add cheese, remove from grill and allow to rest for at least 5 minutes before serving.

A step-by-step sequence showing BBQ Ranch Burgers: beef patties grilled, brushed with sauce, topped with cheese, and finished on foil with melted cheese.

    7. While the burgers are resting, toast the brioche buns in a thin layer of bacon grease.

Three images show: a buttered pan, burger buns toasting for BBQ Ranch Burgers, and a close-up of toasted buns next to sliced onions and lettuce.

    8. Assemble the BBQ Ranch Burgers and enjoy!

A toasted burger bun, pickle slices, bacon, onions, a jar of sauce, and foil-wrapped BBQ Ranch Burgers are arranged on a wooden board and tray.

    Serving suggestions

I love serving burgers with sides that are on the lighter side such as this Berry Caprese Salad or Greek Cucumber Salad.

You could also go classic and serve it with french fries or Air Fryer Tater Tots.

Or go for a full BBQ cook out feel and serve with Baked Mac and Cheese.

    Tips for perfect grilled burgers.

    1. Let the meat come to room temperature before grilling. Even 15-20 minutes makes a big difference and will ensure the burgers cook evenly and come out juicy and delicious.

    2. Do not overwork the meat. The more you stir and work ground meat the tougher it can get. Use your hands to mix in the seasoning until just combined for a tender burger.

    3. Do not season the ground beef until just before grilling. The second salt hits the burger meat it begins to draw out moisture. Season the outside of your burgers just a couple minutes before grilling to ensure juicy burgers.

    4. Make an indent in the middle of the patty before grilling. This helps the burger hold its shape rather than swelling.

    5. Make sure your grill is hot before cooking the burger. This will give the burgers a nice char on the outside and an even cook on the inside.

    6. Let your burgers rest at least 5 minutes before servings. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat and gives you a juicier, more flavorful burger.

    • Mixing bowls
    • Skillet
    • Foiled line pan
    • Basting brush

    Ingredients

    For the burger patties

    • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20 fat ratio
    • 1.5 tablespoon ranch seasoning
    • salt & pepper
    • ¼ cup BBQ sauce
    • 4 slices cheddar cheese

    For the coleslaw topping

    • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
    • 1 teaspoon white vinegar can substitute with apple cider vinegar or pickle juice
    • 1 teaspoon ranch seasoning
    • 3 cups raw coleslaw mix

    For the burger sauce

    • ¼ cup BBQ sauce
    • ¼ cup mayonnaise
    • 3 teaspoon ranch seasoning

    To assemble

    • 8 slices bacon
    • 4 brioche buns any burger bun will work but I recommend brioche
    • thinly sliced red onion optional
    • dill pickle slices optional

    Instructions

    • Take the ground beef out of the fridge 15-20 minutes before grilling to allow to come to room temperature. *Note* do not add any seasoning to burger meat at this time.
While the meat is coming to room temperature, prepare the topping ingredients.

    Make the coleslaw topping

    • In a medium size mixing bowl combine mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, vinegar, and ranch seasoning. Mix to combine then add raw coleslaw mix and stir until evenly coated. Set aside.

    Make the burger sauce

    • In a small mixing bowl combine BBQ sauce, mayonnaise and ranch seasoning. Stir until well combined and set aside.

    Cook the bacon

    • In a skillet add 8 slices of bacon and cook until crispy. Remove bacon from the skillet onto a paper towel lined plate.
Set the skillet aside and do not pour out the bacon grease (optional, you can use the bacon grease to toast the buns).

    Prep and grill the burgers

    • Preheat the grill over medium high heat for at least 5 minutes while you prepare the burger patties.
Add ground beef and 1 ½ tablespoon of ranch seasoning to a medium size mixing bowl. Use your hands to gently mix in the seasoning, being very careful not to overwork the meat.
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts and form 4 round patties. Use your thumb to create a slight indentation in the middle of the patties to reduce bulging. Season both sides of the burger patties with salt and pepper then place in a foil lined pan.
Carefully place the burgers onto the preheated grill and use a basting brush to brush a little BBQ sauce on the burgers.
Close the lid and cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes. Then flip the burgers to the other side and baste with more BBQ sauce. Close the lid and grill for another 3-4 minutes. While the burgers are still on the grill place one slice of cheese on each burger patty then remove the burgers to a foil lined pan and loosely cover with foil.
Allow the burgers to rest for at least 5 minutes before serving.

    Toast the buns (optional)

    • While the burgers are resting place the skillet with the bacon fat over medium high heat. Place your burger buns cut side down into the bacon grease and toast on medium-high to high heat for a minute or two until a toasty golden brown.
*Note* You only need a thin layer of bacon grease so feel free to poor some out if there is too much.
*If you prefer not to use bacon grease you can also toast the buns in a little butter or olive oil.*

    Assemble the BBQ Ranch Burgers

    • Spoon a little of the burger sauce on both cut sides of the toasted bun. Then layer on thinly sliced red onion, pickles, bacon, the burger patty and top with the coleslaw. Serve and enjoy!
